Satyanarayana Murty Kompella retired as Selection Grade lecturer in English from MSN Degree College, Kakinada (AP). He secured University first rank in MA (English) at Andhra University in 1971. He was awarded Mantripragada Nagendra Sai Award. He did M.Phil with his dissertation on the poetry of World War I. As a free-lance journalist for over a decade and a half, he contributed articles to Indian Express and Deccan Chronicle on Indian philosophers, Telugu poets and cine and stage artistes.  He is the author of ''Portraits of Poets and Philosophers."
