Paramjeet Singh, IRS (1992), from Mumbai, voluntarily retired as Principal Commissioner of Income Tax in 2024 to devote time to his passion for social work.
Very passionate about social work, and empowering people through education, Paramjeet started an NGO called DBM in 2008. In the last 17 years, fired by his personal motto of “Give till it hurts”, the DBM (Dharma Bharathi Mission) under his leadership has managed to provide a record one crore meals to slum children, train some 20,000+ youth/women till date in various vocational courses, provide scholarships to poor but talented students, and educate about 40,000 slum children in Mumbai. In 2019, Paramjeet Singh started another NGO—EduSikh to help the education of Sikh children as also to promote Punjabi Language and Literature. In just 5 years, EduSikh has started many new initiatives like—(1) Scholarships, Mentoring, career counselling and now a full time Skill Centre at Mumbai for helping students for various competitive exams; (2) Starting Punjabi Olympiads to promote Punjabi Language; and (3) Promoting Punjabi Literature through EduSikh by regularly supporting Punjabi authors, organising book releases, and book talks.
As a writer of books, Paramjeet Singh has authored “Legacies of the Homeland—100 Must Read Books by Punjabi Authors”; and co-authored “Seeking Nanak”.
