Uddipana Goswami

Muse India's Contributing Editor, Assamese Literature

Uddipana Goswami is a sociologist who studies gender issues and the production of literary texts and media content in the context of ethno-nationalist conflicts. Her area of specialization is Northeast India, one of South Asia’s most sustained conflict zones. She was trained in English Literature at the Delhi University, India, and in Journalism at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication. Her PhD in Sociology is from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. Currently, she is working on her monograph, Gender and Ethno-nationalism in Northeast India, as a Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania.

Her published works include Conflict and Reconciliation: The Politics of Ethnicity in Assam (Routledge 2013); two poetry collections, Green Tin Trunk (Authors Press 2014), and We Called the River Red (Authors Press 2010); a short story collection, No Ghosts in this City (Zubaan 2014); and an anthology of folktales retold, Where We Come From, Where We Go: Tales from the Seven Sisters (Westland 2015).
