Dr Srinivas Reddy began studying Sanskrit with his grandfather. Later he trained in classical South Asian languages and literatures at Brown University and did his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests comprise Sanskrit, Tamil and Telugu literary traditions, Vijayanagara history, Indian classical music traditions, and Translation studies.
Srinivas Reddy authored two books Giver of the Worn Garland (2010), a literary translation of Krishna Devaraya’s Telugu epic Âmuktamâlyada, and The Dancer and the King (2014), a fresh translation of Kalidasa’s first play Mâlavikâgnimitram – both by Penguin Books. Presently, an Assistant Professor (South Asian Studies) at IIT, Gandhinagar, he was Visiting Lecturer, Center for Indic Studies, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (Fall 2011); Teaching Associate, Department of Music, Brown University (Spring, Fall 2011); and Faculty Advisor, Telugu Language GISP, Brown University (Fall 2011). His articles have been published in several international journals.
Srinivas is also a concert sitarist and has given numerous recitals around the world.
