02 Aug 2017: Rati Agnihotri’s “The Sunset Sonata” – Book Reading & Performance

A unique book reading and performance of TV journalist and poet Rati Agnihotri's maiden volume of poetry, The Sunset Sonata, published by Sahitya Akademi was held at Conference Room 1 of the India International Centre, New Delhi on 1st August 2017. The poems were introduced by veteran poet and academic Anamika who congratulated the young poet on her remarkable maiden collection, besides emphasizing the comic vitality, cosmic consciousness and metaphysical synthesis that the poet deftly achieves in her poems.

This was followed by the poet Rati reading her poems in a unique performance, set to the tune of collaborative musical pieces by Pratik Maheshwari. A soulful rendition of the titular poem “The Sunset Sonata” instantly stuck a chord with the audience who turned up in good numbers to partake of the joy of poetry. The poet also read out a few of her works in Hindi. A poem titled “Peetal Nagri” elicited an enthusiastic response leading to an animated and impromptu Q&A session with the audience. The evening ended with the playing out of a few recordings of the poet’s poems in veteran artiste Tom Alter's voice which lent another magical hue to the poems. The reading was attended by many poetry aficionados including many bilingual poets. The impressive maiden poetry volume is available for ?90 at all outlets of Sahitya Akademi.
