30 Jul 2017: Volga’s “The Liberation of Sita” bags the First South Asia Laadli Media Award

Famous Telugu writer and Sahitya Akademi award winner Volga’s The Liberation of Sita (translated from the Telugu by T Vijay Kumar and C Vijayasree; Harper Collins, 2016) was awarded the ‘First South Asia Laadli Media & Advertising Award for Gender Sensitivity 2015-16’ for ‘Books in the Novella’ category.

Laadli Media and Advertising Awards, a one of its kind of award for promoting gender sensitivity, was launched in 2007, and the current edition had for the first time invited entries from five South Asian nations besides India. Out of the more than 1500 entries received, the best were chosen from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Mauritius, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

The awards were presented by Dr Shashi Tharoor, MP, and hosted by the popular television journalist Barkha Dutt.

It’s a joyous moment for Muse India as well – since Prof Vijay Kumar is one of its founder editors; and Prof Vijayasree was too actively associated with it. Vijay is Professor of English, Osmania University, Hyderabad; and also a Director of HLF (Hyderabad Literary Festival).

It’s also a happy coincidence that a review – by Ananya Sarkar – of this particular book has appeared in Muse India (Issue 74, Jul-Aug 2017). Here is the link to the review:
