05 Dec 2016: Indian Evening at Ars Poetica International Festival 2016

The 14th Edition of the Ars Poetica International Poetry Festival of Slovakia celebrated Indian culture through Indian poetry and dance on 17th November 2016. While Indian English Poetry was read by Sukrita Paul Kumar, Usha Akella and Sonnet Mondal, Kathak; an Indian classical dance form, was presented by Sangeeta Majumder.

The Indian evening started with Echoing Shadows — a simultaneous poetry and dance rendition by Sonnet Mondal and Sangeeta Majumder. The unique amalgamation of two of India’s ancient arts forms were followed by a series of poetry readings by Sukrita Paul Kumar, Sonnet Mondal and Usha Akella. The poems of the performing poets were then read in Slovak translation by Slovak actors and actresses.

The Ars Poetica organising committee co-hosted the event with The Indian Embassy of Slovakia at Bratislava. Other prominent poets in the festival were Vladimir Martinovski, José Luís Peixoto and Anne Waldman.
