Jan 5: Bashir Bhaderwahi is Sahitya Akademi awardee for Kashmiri

The book entitled Jamis ta kashiri mnz kashri natiya adbuk tawareekh (history of Kashmiri Natiya literature in J & K state) compiled by Bashir Bhaderwahi, has been given the Sahitya Akademi Award 2015 in Kashmiri language under Criticism. The declaration of awards for books, written in twenty four national languages, was made by the Secretary Sahitya Akademi at its main office in New Delhi on Dec 17, 2015. Bashir Ahmad Khatib, 84, commonly known as Bashir Bhaderwahi, hails from Bhaderwah town of Chinab valley of Jammu region. He served in the education department and retired as district education officer. He is known by his popular poetry sung by many Kashmiri singers.
