Dec 7: Abdul Rashid Nazki’s services applauded



Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK) of North Kashmir released its special edition of Praave on Dec 6, 2015, dedicated to living legend, poet, critic, scholar, professor and patron of AMK, Abdul Rashid Nazki. The edition highlights the contribution of its founding chairman and patron documenting the contribution of Nazki. The special issue was released during an impressive function organized by Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK) in collaboration with local literary forums at Bandipora.

Speakers on the occasion presented detailed papers on the contribution of Nazki and explored many aspects of his social and literary life terming him an asset to the literary world. Noted poet and Gyan Pith awardee Professor Rehman Rahi presided over the function. Shujat Bukhari, Prof Mashal Sultanpori, G N Khyal, Prof Ayaz Nazki, Dr Rafiq Masoodi, Prof Faroq Fayaz, Prof Ismail Ashna and Prof Shafaq Sopori were amongst the speakers on the occasion.

Born on September 18, 1931 at Bandipora, North Kashmir, Prof Rashid Nazki sipped the wine of literature from the very early age. An MA in Kashmiri from Kashmir University, he later on taught there Kashmiri, Persian and Iqbaliyat. Nazki has a unique poetic voice which brings metaphysical and transcendental concerns to the moods and themes of Kashmiri poetry. One of Nazki's most famous and widely acclaimed poetic collection is Vahraat, for which he got the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1999. His poems offer a unique insight into a mind, shaped by the mystics and Rishi philosophy. Rashid Nazki dedicated Vahraat to those who now have no name. The Kashmiri icon Nazki has the credit of the first book – Mazhabi Rehnuma – in Kashmiri on the life and message of religious leaders of the world.
