Dec 1: Four more literary/cultural events in J&K in Nov 2015

The JK Cultural Academy organised a function in the Town Hall of Srinagar to release the Urdu short story collection of renowned writer/poetess Prof Neelofer Naaz Nehvi on Nov 17.  Dr Aziz (Secretary of the Cultural Academy), Gh Nabi Khayal (Sahitya Accademy awardee), Dr Rafiq Masoodi (ex-Director, DD Srinagar), M A Bhat (Spokesman JKCC) and Salim Salik (Editor of the Cultural Academy) were amongst who shared the dais. Prof Wajida Tabasum spoke on the collection. Justice B A Kirmani presided over the function.

From Nov 19 to 21, the JK Cultural Academy conducted a 3-day workshop on Radio/Theatre Play Scriptwriting with a good number of interested participants. Showkat Shahri, Aga Ashraf, Zahoor Zahid (Director, DDK) and Bhawani Yasir (Director, EKTA) were prominent among the senior play writers present.

The Degree College for Women, Baramulla (North Kashmir) hosted a seminar on the theme “In Urdu Afsana: Identification of Problems faced by Women” on Nov 27. Several prominent scholars spoke on the topic and stressed upon fiction  writers to keep highlighting  in their short stories the day to day problems faced by women folk, duly citing the contribution of Premchand in this behalf. Renowned BBC broadcaster and chairperson of State Women’s Commission, Nayeema Ahmad Mahjoor presided.

The Degree College of Anantnag (South Kashmir) hosted a Hussaini Mushaira on Nov 28, in which several local poets besides staff and students of the college paid rich tributes to Imaam Hussain as HoD (Kashmiri), University of Kashmir.  Prof Shad Ramzan presided.
