Nov 30: Flood-ravaged JKACL outlet of publications reopened

J&K Desk: Nov 30, 2015: The reopening of the sole sale outlet of publications of the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture & Languages (JKACL), situated in the heart of Srinagar, was inaugurated by Haseeb A Drabu, Minister for Finance, Labour & Employment and Culture on November 25, 2015. The Academy brings out publications in all the local languages of J & K besides English and Urdu. The outlet had been badly hit by the flood deluge of September 9, 2014, causing a great loss to literary treasure.

Srinagar city houses the main book shops, publishers, libraries and main museum besides press enclave all of which had heavily been affected by the said floods. Countless material of literature both printed and unprinted, manuscripts and art pieces had been destroyed across the Kashmir region.

A week earlier, the fully equipped Tagore Hall also was thrown open for public, after renovation and upgradation, by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

Lovers of art, literature and theatre have appreciated the rigorous efforts of the Secretary of the Cultural Academy on both these occasions.
