The Easel
– a collection of 15 short stories in translation into English from Telugu was released at Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram, Hyderabad on Oct 18, 2015. The first copy was presented to veteran film actor & renowned writer Ravi Kondala Rao. The translation is a joint effort by competent litterateurs late RS Krishna Moorthy & NS Murty. U Atreya Sarma, Editor (Fiction & Reviews) of Muse India who was the main speaker reviewed the book. It contains the best stories, picked out by the translators and each of them is a page turner with lucid translation in felicitous language. Incidentally, it contains a story even by Ravi Kondala Rao, the guest of honour.

Late RS Krishna Moorthy’s son Udaya Bhaskar also graced the dais.

The other writers whose stories have figured in the book are – Munipalle Raju (Sahitya Akademi awardee), Gudipati Venkata Chalam, Gopichand (Sahitya Akademi awardee), Binadevi, Dr V Chandrasekhara Rao, Datla Narayana Murty Raju, Ghandikota Brahmaji Rao, Allam Seshagiri Rao, M Ramakoti, Seela Veerraju, Dr Vipparti Pranava Murty and RS Krishna Moorthy.

The translators were the recipients of the Katha-British Council South Asian Translation Award 2000. The Easel is the second one of the tetralogy conceived by the translator duo. The first one The Palette had already been released. The third and the final ones would be The Canvas and The Painting.
